StartThe first patient is Elaine Watts. Her notes include details of her recent admission with pneumonia. Her discharge summary follows: Dear GP, Elaine Watts was admitted with a 4 day history of cough breathlessness and fever. Chest X-ray showed consolidation in the left mid and upper zones. She was hypoxic with a pO2 of 8.3 on air. Her WCC was 15 and CRP was 240, but blood tests were otherwise normal. Blood cultures were negative. She was treated with iv benzyl penicillin and clarithromycin for 2 days, then switched to oral amoxicillin and clarithromycin. On discharge her saturations were 96% on air and she was feeling much better. She will be followed up in chest clinic in 6 weeks. Yours sincerely, Dr A. Houseman |
