Nao Fukaya: A biopsy was taken of the muscular wall of the right ventricle in the heart. Benito Casado: A biopsy was taken of the seminiferous tubules of the testis near the basement membrane where sperm development begins. In this area, cells are actively dividing. Shan Zhu: A biopsy was taken of the epithelial cell of the respiratory tract, below the trachea, somewhere near the bronchi and bronchioles. Mucous is still produced here, and the cells are shorter than they were along the trachea. Vera Wyatt: A biopsy was taken of cells in the loose connective tissue of the dermis, close to the basement membrane adjacent to the epidermis.
