STARTWelcome to Virtual Residents, a ‘game’ inspired by many years of troubleshooting issues arising in community-based rotations. As preceptors, teachers, or mentors many have experienced and brought to light some interesting professionalism, and other inter-relational, challenges. With these scenarios in mind, we would like to introduce you to the concept of virtual residents, an interactive tool for students and teachers. Note that we are assessing this tool and educational approach - we are NOT assessing you. But it is helpful to know a bit more about you to help make our cases better. What program or department do you work in? Using Situational Judgment Testing (SJT) we would like to explore some of these issues through the following scenarios. For these, there is often no single right answer. For more information about how to play this different style of cases, please refer to the Instructions or the HELP in the index. If you have not used 'Drag & Drop' responses before, check out our 1 minute video here or on the HELP page. Before proceeding to the sets of cases, please read the following vignette that sets the scene. You have been a rural preceptor for a few years now. You are pleased that your site was recently recognised with an award for teaching quality. You will soon be receiving residents from the new IMG program and wonder what this entails in the way of changes. Choose from the following topic areas. When you have completed one area, choose other topics from the index (see top right - there are 5 topic areas in all) or you can choose to finish early. You can track how much you have done using the Progress counter in the top right panel. |
